The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing has set six Key Result Areas for the national University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) program.
The University Department of Rural Health is headed by its Director, Associate Professor
Sue Kilpatrick. An Executive team,
comprising of the Director, Deputy Director Dr Erica Bell and
the Executive Officer Jason Flello, is responsible
for the day-by-day management of the department.
To ensure that the UDRH meets the National UDRH Program Objectives, a coordinated and integrated structure has been established to
address these important priorities. The UDRH's work program is developed and coordinated by focussing on important areas of attention. The Coordinators, along with focussing on the following areas, also provide strategic and workforce planning advice to the Executive team.
Coordinators have been established to focus on the following important areas of academic activity:
As well, Associate Professor Peg LeVine is leader of the Mental Health team and Dr Peter Orpin is the Primary Health Care Research & Evaluation Development (PHCRED) Coordinator.
The Executive team and Coordinators meet regularly to consider progress and planning with regard to future direction options
and areas of focus for the coming period. This group is joined by a number of external partners for
UDRH Interface Advisory meetings, held several times per year.
The Faculty of Health Science's Academic Rural Health Advisory Group (ARHAG), representing appropriate University, professional and community
interests (as well as representatives of the three levels of government), provides the Faculty of Health Science with strategic and policy direction
advice. The ARHAG provides this advice principally to assist the UDRH (along with the Rural Clinical School (RCS) and the Rural Undergraduate Support
and Coordination (RUSC) programs) in its strategic thinking. Additionally, the Heads, of each of these three programs, form the Rural Health Executive
and meet quarterly.
The UDRH employs approximately 43 staff (28.6 FTE) in Launceston, Hobart and the Cradle Coast.
