Using Computers

Introduction

Using computers is becoming an everyday part of life just like the telephone and fax machines. However computers are more complex tools requiring intuitive and investigative skills. Most rural health professionals start using computers for word processing reports and for data collection. Their skills quickly build as they use email for communication. Most people develop these skills easily and quickly. The World Wide Web is the library part of the Internet and with the effective use of search engines relevant information can be located. Practice makes perfect when searching the www. It helps to be intuitive and follow your nose, but your chances of success increase if you develop systematic searching skills.

The Tasmanian Communities Online network comprises 64 Online Access Centres located across rural and regional Tasmania. The Centres are community facilities providing low-cost access to, and training in, the use of information and communication technology, including access to the Internet, online government, and community information. TAFE Tasmania offers an ongoing program in computer training and education
