Theme 1 - Leadership

Introduction

As health service delivery is now developing a much stronger community focus, community-based groups will have expanded opportunities for improving the health of their communities. There are no fixed rules for leadership but there are certainly some core skills, qualities and attributes that many good leaders seem to possess. Leadership is recognised as an important element in successful community initiatives, but not in the old fashioned sense of a single driving force. Now it is well understood that good leadership requires a team effort to bring a multitude of necessary skills together. Community leadership is about helping others to decide on goals and work together towards achieving them.

This theme area helps you to understand how your personality and skills help you as a leader, and how other personality types and skill bases will complement your own and result in a rounded leadership team.
