How do we share the work and delegate tasks?

The sharing of tasks and responsibilities is essential for a community development team. The methods of sharing will depend on your group structure and leadership styles. Incorporated Associations will share work by having a committee with the roles of Chairperson, Treasurer and Public Officer.

Even so we have all heard the deafening silence at meetings when volunteers are called for and there are some successful strategies for sharing work:

• Delegate
• Ask for help
• Share the planning and decision-making, not only the work Consider the same factors that help to recruit volunteers
• Be clear about what you are asking for
• Match the work to the individual
• Make sure you share the interesting work as well as the tedious tasks
• Give people responsibility
• Make it fun
