Shelagh is currently undertaking research to develop a profile of the Tasmanian allied health and oral heatlh workforce.

The general responsibilities of her position focus on rural health workforce education and research, particularly in the field of allied health. In particular: allied health workforce recruitment and retention, support for allied health student clinical placements, and ongoing professional development for Tasmanian qualified allied health practioners.


Career Summary

Shelagh developed an interest in, and experience of rural allied health issues through her clinical practice as a physiotherapist on the east coast of Tasmania. This lead to her becoming a rural allied health advocate. In 2004 she became the Executive Officer of Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH), working in support of rural and remote allied health practitioners. She is currently employed in two positions (1) Asssociate Lecturer, Rural Allied Health at the University Department of Rural Health and (2) Policy and Program Manager for SARRAH.

Allied health workforce recruitment and retention; The implementation of primary health care policy in rural and remote Australia (Masters topic); Multidisciplinary team practice in primary health care in rural and remote Australia; Rural clinical education for allied health students; Allied health student supervision in rural and remote Australia; Interprofessional education in rural Australia
