Career Summary

Susan has spent over 20 years in the tertiary sector, in education and more recently, health sciences. She began her tertiary career working in distance education as an editor and instructional designer, followed by 7 years as a researcher in the Faculty of Education at the University of Tasmania, working in the Centre for Research & Learning in Regional Australia.

Taking a break from the tertiary sector, she moved to the non-government sector in 2004, managing the first Tasmanian Communities for Children project which was funded by the Australian government under the Stronger Families and Communities inititiative. Working with project staff and in close consultation with communities, Susan was responsible for the development of strategic and service delivery plans for early childhood interventions in selected communities.

Drawing on the knowledge and experience gained in relation to early childhood interventions, and wanting to contribute to the researh base in this area with a partiuclar focus on rural communities, Susan returned to the tertiary sector in 2005. She is currently employed one day per week as a Junior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Health Science at the University of Tasmania, where she is also a PhD candidate supported by a Partners in Health scholarship.
