NEW degree in Exercise Science in 2007:

The Bachelor of Exercise Science is a 3.5 year program that is designed to produce graduates who meet the professional requirements for registration with Australian Association of Exercise and Sports Science (AAESS) as exercise physiologists or sport scientists. Exercise and sport scientists provide assessment, monitoring and program prescription for fitness and exercise in a diverse range of populations from the chronically ill to elite athletes. NEW Medical Course in 2006

The School of Medicine has introduced a 5-year MBBS course in 2006 (the medical degree was previously a 6-year program). The course features an integrated approach to learning the basic and clinical sciences through case-based learning. New pre-requisites have been approved for 2008, and will be Chemistry CHM5C and English Communications ENC5C or English Studies ENS5C5C. A strong background in mathematics is recommended. Current pre-requisites are Physical Sciences PSC5C and Chemistry CHM5C.

Alternate Pathways to Medicine and Pharmacy:

The University of Tasmania has approved a number of places in both the MBBS and the Bachelor of Pharmacy on the basis of performance in UTAS undergraduate degrees in Medical Research, Science, Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, Health Science or Environmental Science. Combined degree in Health Science/Teaching

In just 4 years you can graduate with a combined qualification in Health Science and Teaching, and be qualified to be employed as a teacher in health science and food and technology areas. Find out more

NEW Associate degree in Paramedic Studies:

A professionally recognised course studied over three years part-time with concurrent full-time employment in the ambulance service. Find out more

Commonwealth Learning Scholarships

These scholarships aim to assist rural and regional, low income and indigenous students, who are Australian citizens or holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas. Information for students intending to study at the University of Tasmania is available on the Scholarships website. Bonded Medical Places Scheme

234 new HECS funded medical school places will be created each year around Australia. The places come with obligations under the scheme.
