Rural Health Teaching Sites Home

lavender The University Department of Rural Health, Tasmania (UDRH) has a network of rural hospital and community-based learning environments dedicated to rural health teaching, learning, and research.

Rural Health Teaching Sites aim to:

  • provide alternative models of health education
  • establish a university presence in rural communities
  • develop the role of local health professionals as teachers and researchers
  • provide easy and affordable access to professional education
  • address population and public health issues through research and teaching

Rural Health Teaching Sites provide visitors with clean and comfortable self-contained accommodation, which is offered on a share basis. Each RHTS has its own washing machine and dryer, cooking facilities, TV and VCR. Bed linen and towels are provided and are laundered regularly. Visitors are responsible for their own personal laundry.

Visitors need to supply their own food, including tea and coffee. Meals may be ordered at the hospital/health centre and vary in price.

Telephones are available for local calls only. Mobile phone coverage is available through the Next G network. Please check on the Telstra website whether the teaching site you are visiting is covered. It is recommended that visitors purchase a phone card before their stay.
